Pedorthics

Pedorthics is the management and treatment of conditions of the foot, ankle, and lower extremities requiring fitting, fabricating, and adjusting of pedorthic devices. Pedorthic devices include: shoes, foot orthoses, athletic shoe gear, boots, slippers, sandals, socks, hosiery, night splints, bandages, braces, partial-foot prosthetics, or other devices that interact with the foot.

A Certified Pedorthist is an individual who is trained in the management and treatment of conditions of the foot, ankle, and lower extremities requiring fitting, fabricating, and adjusting of pedorthic devices.

Credentialed Pedorthists usually work as specialists on a team. Credentialed Pedorthists are specialists in using footwear to address lower-limb-related problems, pathologies and performance enhancement biomechanics. Credentialed Pedorthists understand the properties of devices and the interaction between device and patient. A Physician determines and prescribes what kind of assistance a patient should be provided and a credentialed pedorthist provides the pedorthic device.

Pedorthists give physicians and patients a whole range of conservative - or non-surgical - treatment options. Increasingly, doctors and other qualified prescribers write pedorthic prescriptions to relieve pressure, redistribute weight, accommodate or support conditions, prevent injuries, compensate for imbalances or overuse, and preclude the worsening of damage to the foot. In addition to addressing lower limb problems, footwear prescriptions can address foot-related problems, such as lower back pain, pelvic imbalances, or other limits to physical ability to perform. Like all prescriptions, a footwear prescription takes into account medical history, activities of daily living, and treatment goals. Credentialed Pedorthists follow up with patients to make sure fitted pedorthic devices function as prescribed.
Pedorthic Education:
Credentialed Pedorthists study foot and lower limb anatomy; pathology; biomechanics, which involves human locomotion; gait analysis; footwear fitting; lower extremity orthotic design, fabrication and materials; shoe construction and modification; and patient/practice management. In addition, to become Credentialed, Pedorthists seek hours under supervision of a Credentialed Pedorthist to familiarize themselves with approaches, terminology, techniques of fabrication and clinical care. After studying and being mentored, Pedorthists attend specific Pedorthic courses which are prerequisites for certification examination. Credentialed Pedorthists maintain their certification by following continuing education and renewal requirements.

Kevin B. Rosenbloom, C.Ped
Founder, Sports Biomechanist

Who is Kevin

Kevin B. Rosenbloom has been in practice since 2003 as a Clinical Biomechanist and Board Certified Pedorthist. His professional focus is conservative and functional treatment of the foot, ankle, knee, hip and back pathologies related to overuse and stress injuries. He is the inventor of Biomechanical Intelligence, a clinical exam method which reveals the etiology of orthopaedic pathologies. Using Biomechanical Intelligence, Kevin applies conservative methods to change patient specific tissue stress through modifying physical activity, gait training, orthotics, and physiotherapy. Kevin's clinic is in Santa Monica, California. Kevin's exam methods and foot orthotics are provided nationwide by orthopedic surgeons, podiatrists, physical therapists and chiropractors. Kevin has lectured nationally, published several papers, developed clinical guides and is an editor of the International Journal: Foot and Ankle Specialist. Kevin attended Northwestern Medical School for his Pedorthic education and furthered his training under the world renowned Dr. Lowell Weil, Sr. at the Weil Orthopedic Institute.

Mary W.

"I met Kevin at the Foot and Ankle Institute in Santa Monica. My husband recommended him as well. I was impressed with his professionalism and knowledge. I was having pain in my left foot/toes and I was beginning to limp. He made a pair of very well made orthotics for me which were a game changer!"

Claude W.

"Kevin's knowledge and attention to details fixed my issue 100% and could not be riding today without the orthotics he built for me, He is truly a mad genius at what he does- you trust me as I've had my share of custom orthotics over 40 years for all different activities."

Kathryn M.

"His office staff are friendly and responsive and the overall experience was great. He went the extra mile to work with me and really understands the nature of living with an ankle fusion. He gets an A++ for customer service and knowledge!"

Sandy Fellerman

"I've been going to KevinRoot Medical for 7 years and I have had amazing results. He is so knowledgeable in his field. I have extremely bad feet and he has helped me immensely. If it wasn't for his expertise I don't know if I would have the functionality that I have!

Thank you Kevin.... you rock!"

Michelle Hamilton

"When I came in to see Kevin, I was in tremendous pain. I'd had 3 surgeries on my right ankle- needless to say they didn't work for me and now I can barely walk. Kevin asked me many questions, was very thorough and listened. He took a cast of my foot to mid calve - this boot was to take pressure off my ankle and center my positioning of my leg. I can now straighten my knee , tighten my buttocks and walk without a limp."

David Bargeron

"Great experience. Worked with my schedule. Kevin Spent extra time explaining every detail of his process and made sure I completely understood the mechanics of my foot problem. Nice guy and professional modern office."

Adam Lasker

"His insight is truly invaluable as most doctors and physical therapists are focused on solving short term problems (such as inflammation, broken bones, torn ligaments/tendons, etc). Kevin is focused on solving the root causes of poor mechanics, inflammation, tendinitis, etc. As anyone with chronic foot problems knows, you can't put a dollar value on being able to walk without pain or discomfort. His thoughtfulness and experience is truly world class."

Mary Fischer

"He is passionate and incredibly knowledgeable about feet and orthotics. During the time I went without orthotics, I learned from Kevin how to walk differently and use more of my front foot and after 2 weeks, I could walk without pain--and without an orthotic! So now I am trying the new orthotics from Kevin which are an improvement, but I am now deciding if I feel better using the new orthotics or whether I can go without. Thanks Kevin for your care and knowledge."

Virginia S.

"Not only was Kevin affable and flexible, accommodating my schedule and even meeting me at the shop to do my molds, he was incredibly responsive to the many questions I had about my orthotics as I got used to them. He worked with me to get them to fit perfectly, even modifying them as I got accustomed to the higher arches and could handle getting them back to the shape of my original casting."

Eno B.

"I saw Kevin a couple months ago and he was able to diagnose exactly what was going on with my feet. He and his staff are very professional. I was fitted for a pair of custom orthotics and they arrived within about 2 weeks after the fitting. I was given full instructions on how to use the device and how to ease the use of my orthotics into my exercise routine. Now, about 8 weeks later, I have no more pain. Seeing Kevin and his staff saved me thousands of dollars in unnecessary office visits. Thanks!!!"

Dr. K.

"KevinRoot Medical is awesome! I am a very picky doctor who insists on superior quality and service, and they deliver every time! I had a patient traveling to Italy, had a rush order, and they delivered in a very tight time-frame (the patient came in last minute and had to have complex adjustments made). Thank you Kevin, Jacob, and Jonathan for excellent service to a perfectionist! My patients love their orthotics. I have gone through several companies, and this is the BEST!"

Tonya D.

"I am really surprised by the negative reviews. I found Kevin to be super professional and helpful and the orthotics he made for me are a game changer! I would highly recommend!"

Dana E.

"I love my orthotics. I can run again and no longer have knee pain."

Tracy U.

"EVERYTHING he said, from the diagnosis to the treatment options was right on point. After so much confusion and discouragement, I finally felt encouraged that there was an accurate diagnosis with many possible solutions. Feeling like someone heard me and paid attention to what I was going through made me walk with a new kick in my step...no pun intended:) Kevin is so passionate about what he knows as well as generous with his time and empathy. I highly recommend KevinRoot Medical!"
