KevinRoot Medical Acquires California Orthopaedic Lab
KevinRoot Medical is pleased to announce the acquisition of California Orthopaedic Lab, Inc. in Signal Hill, California. This is wonderful and exciting news for the clients of both laboratories! The clients of California Orthopaedic Lab will benefit from the breadth of technology offered by KevinRoot Medical. The strong reputation of California Orthopaedic Lab further solidifies KevinRoot Medical as a leader in orthotic fabrication and foot technology.
History of California Orthopaedic Lab
California Orthopedic Lab was established in 1978 by the late Dr. John Pagliano and Roberta (Bobbie) Larivey. Prior to 1978, leading podiatrist, Dr. John Pagliano ordered custom orthotics from Burns Podiatric Lab in Nebraska. Disappointed in the turnaround times, Bobbie and Dr. Pagliano believed they could improve orthotic service by opening a lab in Southern California.
At the time, Bobbie was attending Pepperdine Graziadio School of Business earning her MBA. During her MBA (graduating in 1980) Bobbie applied all coursework to the founding and operation of an orthotic lab which became California Orthopaedic Lab, Inc.
Dr. John Pagliano was an acclaimed elite distance runner and ran many marathons with finish times under 3 hours. During the late 1970’s and 1980’s he established himself as one of the “go to” sports podiatrists in Southern California specializing in sports orthotics to treat lower extremity and running injuries.
Together, Bobbie and Dr. Pagliano furthered their orthotic education and learned about the detailed process of orthotic fabrication from none other than our founder, Dr. Merton Root and Root Orthotic Laboratory in San Jose, CA.
Like so many orthotic lab founders, Bobbie and Dr. Pagliano visited our lab for extended periods of time in Northern California to learn about biomechanics and how to apply biomechanics to the custom orthotic fabrication process. Dr. Merton Root demonstrated to Bobbie and Dr. Pagliano how to: take a neutral impression, how to evaluate the impressions, create positive models of feet and fabricate orthotics following a podiatrist’s detailed prescription.
Now, 45 years later, we are proud to carry on the legacy of Dr. Pagliano and Bobbie. We welcome the clients (nation-wide) of California Orthopaedic to our team. This is a testament to what our founder, Dr. Merton Root accomplished, sharing with the world the ability to fabricate biomechanical custom orthotics based upon Root methods, ultimately enhancing foot function and comfort for the benefit of people globally.
