BIQ forms:
Genu Valgum/Varum
What it Measures
Q angle – angle of imaginary line from ASIS to center of knee joint and a line from center of knee joint to achilles insertion
Significance
- Moderate Significance
- Relative to breadth of ASIS
Normal Value
- 8-12° for men
- 12-17° for women
- 8-17° for they

About
Measuring for degrees of Genu Valgum or Genu Varum reveals how stable and dispersed from the pelvis to the femur and from the femur to the tibia. Excessive degrees of either can imply an unstable positioning and rotations of the knee while walking. Excessive Genu Valgum or Genu Varum implies that excessive shearing or frictional forces and compressional forces are being applied to the knee joint and surrounding musculature not intended to handle such forces. This measurement can genuinely show if muscles and joints are being loaded improperly.
Effect of Deviation
Larger Q angle more load on tensile bearing tissue and more efficient lateral propulsion Smaller Q angle more load on compression bearing tissue and more efficient propulsion
