A heel elevator changes the pitch of the plantar surface of the rearfoot post in the sagittal plane. The higher the elevator, the thicker the rearfoot post will be posteriorly. The purpose of a post elevator is to create maximum contact between the plantar surface of the rearfoot post and the interior surface of the heel of the shoe.
