Merton Root and Kevin Rosenbloom Merton Root and Kevin Rosenbloom

Names behind
the brand.

Every orthotic we make carries two names, and two lifetimes of obsession with how the human foot really works.

Kevin B. Rosenbloom, C.Ped
Founder & CEO · KevinRoot Medical
Dr. Merton L. Root
Father of Podiatric Biomechanics · 1922–2002

A name isn't invented. It's inherited. KevinRoot Medical is what happens when the science one man spent a lifetime defining meets the hands of someone who refused to let it fade.

Dr. Merton L. Root

Dr. Merton L. Root, DPM, the Father of Podiatric Biomechanics.

The man who taught the world how the foot works.

The foundation · 1922–2002

In a chiropody classroom, a young Merton Root kept asking his professor a question no one could answer: how, exactly, does the foot function? That refusal to accept "we don't know" became a life's work.

He arrived at a deceptively simple idea, a neutral position, a concept of zero from which every foot could be measured. With Dr. William Orien he wrote the textbooks that became the foundation of modern podiatric biomechanics, and in 1974 he founded Root Functional Orthotic Laboratory.

He didn't just build a product. He built the language the entire field still speaks.

"There had to be a neutral zone, almost like a concept of zero."
The idea, recalled by Root's family, that reshaped a profession

The steward who carried the work forward.

Kevin B. Rosenbloom · today

Kevin Rosenbloom found this world at eleven, in a chiropractor's waiting room, reading a pamphlet titled "Is it a good shoe?" At sixteen he taught himself to press custom insoles on a dusty machine in the back of an REI. In a Durango ski shop he decided, for good, that feet would be his life's work.

He opened his own lab with a single goal: give clinicians the highest-quality products and experience for every biomechanical need. He is the creator of Biomechanical Intelligence™ and Foot ID™, and today serves as CEO and Medical Director.

He'll tell you he's not the story here. He's the one making sure Merton Root's is never forgotten.

Foot In Motion
Feetinmotion.com was already taken, so footinmotion.com it was. Clever, but clients could never remember it. "Just call Kevin," doctors would say.
Kevin Orthotics logo

Kevin Orthotics
Referrals happen by a person's name, not a clever one. So the lab took Kevin's, the name people were already using anyway.
Kevin Orthopedic logo
2014
Kevin Orthopedic
After acquiring True Orthotics, the name broadened, for surgeons, physical therapists and the O&P field, not podiatrists alone.
Kevin Orthopedic Institute logo
2018
Kevin Orthopedic Institute
"Institute" marked a deepening commitment to research and education in lower-limb care.

KevinRoot Medical
After merging with Root Lab, two names became one. "Medical" captured the whole of it, the science, the treatment, the prevention. The brand you know today.

May 2020: two names. One mission.

Kevin B. Rosenbloom and Dr. Merton Root
KevinRoot logo evolution

In 2019, Jeff Root, Merton's son, went looking for someone to carry his father's legacy forward. By 2020, the two labs had merged. The science that started it all, now in hands that treat it like a responsibility.

What we do today

Technologies that help clinicians measure the body and improve human movement.

KevinRoot Medical is a full-service biomechanical lab: custom orthoses, bracing, 3D foot scanning and Biomechanical Intelligence, all in service of one thing, better outcomes for your patients. The science Dr. Root began, carried forward and prescribed with precision.

A doctor's science.
A steward's promise.
One name.
