Lipstick Works the Best: What is your favorite shade?

I have some lipstick in all of my office patient rooms for this exact purpose and they can be a game changer. They make a predictable mark for an impression cast for the area you want off loaded. I use this for most of my accommodations since 1 mm off can cause pain and be inadequate off loading. I use it all the time when I want to see the spot on the orthotics the patient is wearing. After you mark the foot, have the patient slide their foot into the shoe carefully trying to avoid plantar pressure. You will see a skid mark proximally as the foot goes into the shoe, and then the most distal smudge is where the exact spot to accommodate is found. You can also check if the lab was spot on with their accommodation, or the accommodation needs to be adjusted. When using shoes, always have them walk once down the hallway.

Here are some of the typical KevinRoot Medical modifications that help with this off loading accommodative function:

It is the same function for most of these and the lipstick technique, in the right shade of course, will help you get the spot to off weight more exactly.
